The Sinatra Celebrity Cookbook

A project near and dear to Frank and Barbara Sinatra - all proceeds benefit the nonprofit Barbara Sinatra Children's Center.

Founded in 1986 by Barbara and Frank Sinatra, the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center is widely acknowledged as a state-of-the-art haven for abused children. The not-for-profit facility provides individual and group therapy for young victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

CLIENT SERVICES

Psychological/Social Assessment

The initial counseling session is with the child and parent/s/guardian. At this diagnostic interview, a thorough intake is conducted to document the client and family psychological, social, medical and environmental history.

Sexual Abuse Assessment

A specified number of counseling sessions help determine if a child has been sexually abused. Only Child Protective Services or Law Enforcement requests this type of victim assessment.

Individual Psychotherapy

One-on-one therapy, usually with pre-adolescent, adolescents or an adult and clinician. Weekly sessions are insight-oriented, behavior modifying and/or supportive.

Interactive Psychotherapy

Counseling that involves the use of physical aids (therapy tools) and non-verbal communication to assist interaction between therapist and child. Typically provided to children who have not yet developed verbal skills to express their feelings, symptoms and situations, these treatment sessions last approximately 20-30 minutes, or 45-50 minutes, and are most often scheduled weekly.

Group Therapy

Therapy in-group settings for six to eight clients of similar age, symptoms and difficulties. Weekly sessions are approximately 75-90 minutes and are most often part of an overall therapy program.

Anger Management Group: therapy that helps the child realize non-violent crisis resolution skills, modifying behaviors and how to appropriately express, and work through anger.

Sexual Abuse Therapy Group: therapy that brings together girls and/or boys who have been sexually molested to share their feelings.

AMAC (Adults Molested As Children) Group: therapy for eight to ten adult men and women molested as children who meet weekly for approximately 75-90 minutes.

Family Therapy

Therapy in which the client and his or her family members meet together to help modify behaviors and provide support. Abusive family members are not a part of any BSCC counseling group.

Self-Esteem Program

Group classes to develop confidence, self-esteem and positively impact on the child's inner and outer being. The program consists of weekly classes in which clients eight to eighteen years of age are counseled in grooming skills, hygiene, dress, nutrition, music, art, assertion and communication skills, dance, Tai Chi, Yoga and other confidence building characteristics appropriate to their individual age group. Area professionals volunteer their skills and work with the children and teens.

Bobbo the Bear (Good Touch/Bad Touch)

An early abuse prevention and detection community out-reach interactive puppet-show. The program teaches elementary school age children about "good touch/bad touch" and what to do and who to tell if abuse occurs or is suspected. Sessions lasting approximately 30 minutes are held at area elementary schools for multiple groups of 25 to 30 youngsters.

Psychiatric Evaluation: Provided by an on-site contract licensed psychiatrist as needed.

Psychological Testing: Provided by an on-site licensed psychologist as needed.
