Update from the nonprofit Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower, whose mission is to provide counseling for victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and to focus on prevention, community education and breaking the cycle of abuse. Services are provided regardless of a family’s inability to pay. “Thank you for all you do to help us maintain and enhance our greatest goal, to bring compassion and care to all Children’s Center services on behalf of children who look to us for help,” Susan Reynolds, Executive Vice President. “We must use time as a tool, not as a couch,” President John F. Kennedy During the month of October 2009, 197 individual cases received counseling at the Children’s Center with one of three full-time or four per-diem therapists, one of whom is a child psychologist. Typically, between 600 and 700 individual cases are seen annually. The average duration of each multidimensional counseling program is six months to one year, depending on the severity of abuse. Some children are in therapy significantly longer. No “cookie cutter” therapy protocols are adhered to; each child’s treatment plan meets his or her own needs and is authorized/co-overseen by either the third party payer (MediCal, insurance carrier, the Center’s clinical director or other entity). During October, 13 clients received transportation to and from the Children’s Center because their parent/caregiver was not able to do so; 51 cases were closed; 39 children began counseling as new clients. “I don’t think there’s anything as wonderful in life as being able to help someone else,” Betty Ford The Children’s Center is the only location in eastern Riverside County with a specially equipped medical suite to provide forensic examinations on children suspected of having been sexually assaulted. The alternative would be for the child to be examined in a hospital emergency room. Working cooperatively with Child Protective Services (CPS), law enforcement and the Office of the District Attorney, the Center’s forensic facility includes state-of-the art medical equipment. A specially trained registered nurse and medical doctor, both under contract to the Children’s Center, working with and often testifying in court on behalf of the victim at the request of the District Attorney’s office. “A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort,” Herm Albright Join Barbara Sinatra on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at The Affiliates’ Frank Sinatra Musical Birthday Tribute as Patti Gribow performs songs popularized by Ol’ Blue Eyes with The Pat Rizzo Band at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort, Indian Wells. Frank Sinatra was born December 12, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey. “Maybe the day will come when I can sit back and be content...But until that day comes, I intend to stay in the batter’s box – I don’t let the big guys push me out of there anymore – and keep hammering away,” Hank Aaron Los Angeles Dodger manager Joe Torre is guest speaker and honoree at the Children’s Center’s Wednesday, January 27, 2010 Sports Spectacular Luncheon at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort, Indian Wells. Joe, a long-time friend of Frank and Barbara Sinatra, and the Children’s Center, will become an Honorary member of the Center’s Uncles Club at the luncheon. This casual, fun-filled, high-spirited luncheon and Q&A with Joe Torre raises funds to underwrite individual, group and family counseling services for victims of child abuse. The Uncles and Aunts Clubs are comprised of individuals throughout the world who donate annual membership dues of $1000 to help ensure therapy is available for children all in need, regardless of a family’s inability to pay. Please call 760-773-1636 for information and reservations. “Let’s remind ourselves, it is people, not things, that are life’s most valued treasures,” Betz Hutchison Look for the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Frank Sinatra-theme tree at ACT FOR MS’ “Christmas Tree Lane” Auction, Saturday, December 5, 2009. Caregivers are suffering their own trauma and difficulties coping, which affects their children. This community is fortunate the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center is here and a partner in the ongoing struggle.” Thank you for your support and Happy Thanksgiving! |
