Who We Are Founded in 1986 by Barbara and Frank Sinatra, the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center at Eisenhower is widely acknowledged as a state-of-the-art haven for abused children. The not-for-profit facility provides individual and group therapy for young victims of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Most cases of abused and neglected children never come to the attention of authorities. This is especially true of sexually abused children -- secrecy is often intensely maintained, even by adults who know of the abuse, for fear of destroying the family. Studies show that one in three girls, and one in four boys is sexually abused before age 18. The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center remains committed to Barbara and Frank Sinatra's vision that all children and their families who suffer the devastation of physical or sexual child abuse or other emotional traumas will receive the care, respect and treatment they deserve. When the Center opened, Barbara and Frank pledged that no child who asks for help will be turned away due to inability to pay. The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center counsels children through age 18. Therapy is provided on an individual, family and group basis; on-going programs reinforce client self-esteem, explore anger management issues, focus on specific needs of teens and grandchildren being raised by grandchildren. Other programs work with AMAC clients (Adults Molested as Children). The Children’s Center reaches out to the community through the Bosley the Bear musical puppet show, a child-friendly 20-minute in school program for kindergarten through second grade students. Bosley and his cuddly friends share their views on good touches and bad touches, adults to go to with questions about being uncomfortable and other similar age-appropriate issues. On-site Children’s Center special programs focus on exploring issues related to anger management, specific needs of teenage victims of abuse and issues associated with grandchildren being raised by grandparents. An adult group, Adults Molested as Children (AMAC) meets weekly at the Children’s Center and is facilitated by a staff therapist. A contract psychiatrist is on staff conducts intakes and assessments on clients. Admirers of Frank Sinatra's music throughout the world enthusiastically show support for the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center through Tribute donations and participating in fundraising activities.
